It is quite obvious that there IS ambiguity. After briefly thinking about other possible interpretations, David provided us with a second interpretation a few posts ago (one similar to my own). What with all the rules ambiguity in this game, it certainly wouldn't have surprised me to learn that either interpretation was correct.
If it was truly meant to be that Mana Search can only be used before the player uses their FIRST mana die from the source, why not say that?
As it's written now, it could easily mean that as long as all the criteria of the card check out, you can use it.
Is it my turn? Yes.
Have I previously used Mana Search this turn? No (This obviously addresses the "once per turn" caveat)
Am I in a situation where I'm about to use mana from the source? Yes (This addresses the "before you use mana from the source" caveat)
Does it matter if I actually end up using one of the two dice that get re-rolled? Unspecified on the Mana Search card
Does it matter if this is the FIRST mana die from the source that I will be using this turn? Unspecified on the Mana Search card. Which is where the ambiguity arises.
